Spring Break Family DREAM TRIP to Guatemala! Hands down one of our favorite experiences, mostly thanks to sweet Zury Mathews! So blessed to have her as a friend and country guide... meeting her beautiful family made visiting Stephen's future mission so special! Highlights: Meeting the wonderfully Christlike people of Guatemala, seeing the MTC where Stephen will report in 4 months, visiting both temples (Stephen baptizing IN SPANISH, yay!), MUY DELICIOSO food, especially Zury's favorite Pollo Campero, riding the tuk-tuk's, watching active volcanoes, eating churros under the stars, seeing the ancient Mayan ruins, shopping in the market, watching a political rally, and listening to Zury's stories of growing up in this breathtaking, lush country. Stephen can't wait to serve in Retalhuleu for 2 years - and now we know what the streets where he'll be walking look like!

Our sweet friend Allie Monson's mom, commented on FB ~ Melanie ...when I read your words I was so inspired by your vision to see, touch, experience the exact place your boy would be for almost 2 years. Every word spoke to me for what is to come and what is behind for me; my family. It reminded me so much of when I toured The Temple in Houston before it was sealed. I just knew I must. I knew I had to see for my own eyes where my first child would one day be married. I knew in my gut that Allison was soon to be engaged to Sean and be sealed to each other forever. I was at peace having seen it for myself. So many of my friends were baffled that I was at peace not being a part of her ceremony. My heart knew I was once there. It was ok. I hope this will comfort your family in a similar way as it did me! I knew at ever glance that my eyes were soaking in where my first born would devote her life to her future husband and her Heavenly Father. It was one of the wisest things I had the vision to do for myself. Your family is now equipped with a hands on knowledge of the walk your boy will be taking. So smart, so wise, so inspiring for yourself and others. I love this for you...for my heart was at peace when I could not be a part of this time in my child’s life and I pray yours will be too.
